Deleted page - Frank Golding (author)

[edit]

Hi there, You recently deleted a draft biography page I created for an author, Frank Golding, on the grounds that the sources were largely from the subject himself. I tried to include a substantial amount of source from reputable newspapers and archives, but I would be happy to return to the draft and add more if it could be restored. Finally, if there is any wikipedia guidance on striking a balance for sources for memoirists that would be helpful - the details of the subject's biography are of course sometimes unavoidably best drawn from his own published work because memoir is about the self. Many thanks for your consideration. DeEsCeHa (talk) 02:32, 8 January 2025 (UTC)DeEsCeHa‬[reply]

Burnt fynbos

[edit]

Hi Jimfbleak. Hope 2025 has ricked off just right for you. I came across a reference to burnt in the Portuguese translation of the article, and I see that you introduced that element here. Could you please clarify, so I can adjust the Portuguese to read better? Thanks. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 13:13, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia, that's going back a bit! Bustards are birds of open country, and the bushy nature of fynbos would be unsuitable, but burning effectively creates open habitat, at least until the shrubs regrow. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:32, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that makes sense. As a child I used to see them running at dusk in the Iona National Park in Namibe Province in southern Angola, which – like you said – is open country. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 14:50, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of User:SdHb

[edit]

This page wasn't a WP:U5. For one thing, the user had made more than 700 edits to mainspace and rather than the "few or no edits outside of user pages" required for U5. For another, what the user had put on the page was just "Hi!", which is not a remotely problematic user page. The rest of what was on that page was a comment that another user left, which could just be reverted. SilverLocust (talk) 11:09, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

SilverLocust thanks. Obviously you are technically right, so I've restored. I'll leave any reversion to you, since the history doesn't suggest to me which version should be restored if it's not left as is. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:20, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the user's talk page, it seems that you also unintentionally deleted Aminullah Khan as "making way for a move" even though that page was not a redirect and the page to be moved, Draft:Aminullah Khan, was a redirect. As WP:G6 notes, "An administrator who deletes a page that is blocking a move should ensure that the move is completed after deleting it." The person who nominated it really wanted to delete Draft:Aminullah Khan and move the article there (though that would be move warring despite a WP:DRAFTOBJECT). SilverLocust I'm happy for you to make any remedy you feel is appropriate. It's clearly not appropriate in article space. I suppose it's just about acceptable as a poor draft, but whether its creator will leave it there is, as you suggest, problematic Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:11, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
